Ayurveda mention three pillars to an healthy lifestyle- Aahara(diet),  Nidra(sleep), And Brahmacharya(celibacy)

Nidra or sleep  is a state which refills and recharges our body with energy  which is lost in our daily routine. Accordingly, loss of sleep can lead to several health problems.  

Ayurveda attributes several causes for sleep disorders  such as work stress, age, ailments and body constitution(Vatta & Pitta imbalance)

Most cases of insomnia are related to poor sleeping habits, depression, anxiety, lack of exercise, chronic illness or certain medication.

Importance of sleep:

*Create and promote sense of happiness and well-being.

* Helps maintain consistency of one’s body.

* Enhance and improve the physical and mental strength.

* Improves concentration and increases the power of brain and mind.

* Last but not the least- improves the longetivity and quality of one’s life.

While modern day science still lacks a definite treatment for insomnia and attempts to treat it buy prescribing sedative drugs,  Ayurveda has laid down remedies to treat the cause and symptoms of insomnia centuries ago. by observing  these Ayurvedic practices, one can definitely get rid of this problem. 

Herbs that help insomnia:

Brahmi– Known for its excellent properties that act as a powerful brain tonic, it helps support and improve  all aspects of a person mental functioning and well-being.It is known to be a mental relaxant herb. Having  Brahmi powder, syrup, capsule or any other form at bedtime will help induce good sleep.

Vacha–  This herb is used in the preparation of several Ayurvedic medicine for treating epilepsy, headache, insomnia etc. A combination of this herb along with Amla and Brahmi when taken at bedtime can surely help induce good sleep and also help cure insomnia.

Ashwagandha– This herb is known to enhance the coordination between the mind and senses which is critical to having a sound sleep. It helps to release stress, anxiety and depression.  it is recommended to have a teaspoon of Ashwagandha powder with milk before bedtime to induce good sleep.

*Jatamansi– This herb is found to help increase levels of neurotransmitters like serotonin. It is also known to be a sedative, antidepressant and cardiotonic and is regarded to be one of the most effective remedies for neurosis. The recommended dosage is a quarter spoon of powder to be taken at bed time or soak it in warm water for 5 to 6 hours, strain and drink it at bedtime. However, it is recommended to consult your Ayurvedic physician prior to following this  practice.

*Tagar– This Herb is known to be an excellent de-toxifier and rejuvenator. It helps clear out toxins from the blood joints, tissues ,colon and nerves.

Yoga for insomnia:

Yoga offers a number of benefits to people suffering from insomnia and other sleep disorders.While it is a common practice to take sleeping pills to induce sleep, it has a lot of side effects on your mind and body.  In addition to that, these pills merely work on the “symptoms” and does not attempt to eliminate the underlying cause.

On the other hand, just like Ayurveda, yoga has absolutely no side effects, but only positive effects. It is very much possible for one to alter their lifestyle completely through yoga and eliminate the underlying cause of insomnia.

INSOMNIA- AN AYURVEDIC PERSPECTIVE

आयुर्वेद एक स्वस्थ जीवन शैली के तीन स्तंभों का उल्लेख करता है– Aahara (आहार),  Nidra (नींद), और ब्रह्मचर्य (ब्रह्मचर्य)।आयुर्वेद,अनुसार Nidra या नींद के  हमारे शरीर को ऊर्जा से भरने और रिचार्ज करने वाली एक अवस्था है। हमारी दिनचर्या में खो गया।तदनुसार, नींद की हानि से कई स्वास्थ्य समस्याएं हो सकती हैं।  

आयुर्वेद नींद के विकारों के कई कारण बताता है जैसे कि काम का तनाव, उम्र, व्याधियाँ और शरीर का संविधान (Vatta & Pitta imbalance)।

नींद का महत्व:

* खुशी और कल्याण की भावना बनाएं और बढ़ावा दें।

* किसी के शरीर की स्थिरता बनाए रखने में मदद करता है।

* शारीरिक और मानसिक शक्ति को बढ़ाना और सुधारना।

 हालांकि आधुनिक समय के विज्ञान में अभी भी अनिद्रा के लिए एक निश्चित उपचार का अभाव है और इसे उपचार करने के लिए शामकदवाओं को खरीदने का प्रयास किया जाता है, लेकिन आयुर्वेद ने सदियों पहले अनिद्रा के कारण और लक्षणों के इलाज के लिए उपायकिए हैं। इन आयुर्वेदिक प्रथाओं का पालन करके, एक निश्चित रूप से इस समस्या से छुटकारा पा सकते हैं। 

जड़ीबूटियाँ जो अनिद्रा में मदद करती हैं:

ब्राह्मी– अपने उत्कृष्ट गुणों के लिए जानी जाती है जो एक शक्तिशाली मस्तिष्क टॉनिक के रूप में कार्य करती है, यह मानसिक कार्यऔर अच्छी तरह से व्यक्ति के सभी पहलुओं का समर्थन और सुधार करने में मदद करती है। इसे मानसिक आराम देने वाली जड़ी बूटी केरूप में जाना जाता है। सोते समय ब्राह्मी पाउडर, सिरप, कैप्सूल या किसी अन्य रूप में लेने से अच्छी नींद लाने में मदद मिलेगी।

वाचा– इस जड़ी बूटी का उपयोग मिर्गी, सिरदर्द, अनिद्रा आदि के इलाज के लिए कई आयुर्वेदिक दवाओं की तैयारी में किया जाता है।इस जड़ी-बूटी का संयोजन आंवला और ब्राह्मी के साथ जब सोते समय लिया जाता है तो यह निश्चित रूप से अच्छी नींद लाने में मददकरता है और अनिद्रा को ठीक करने में भी मदद करता है।

अश्वगंधा– इस जड़ी बूटी को मन और इंद्रियों के बीच समन्वय को बढ़ाने के लिए जाना जाता है जो ध्वनि नींद के लिए महत्वपूर्ण है।यह तनाव, चिंता और अवसाद को छोड़ने में मदद करता है। अच्छी नींद को प्रेरित करने के लिए सोने से पहले दूध के साथ अश्वगंधापाउडर का एक चम्मच लेने की सिफारिश की जाती है।

*जटामांसी– यह जड़ी बूटी सेरोटोनिन जैसे न्यूरोट्रांसमीटर के स्तर को बढ़ाने में मदद करती है। यह एक शामक, अवसादरोधी औरकार्डियोटोनिक के रूप में भी जाना जाता है और इसे न्यूरोसिस के सबसे प्रभावी उपचारों में से एक माना जाता है। अनुशंसित खुराक एकचौथाई चम्मच पाउडर है जिसे सोते समय लिया जाता है या इसे 5 से 6 घंटे तक गर्म पानी में भिगोकर रखा जाता है, इसे सोते समयपीएं। हालांकि, इस अभ्यास का पालन करने से पहले अपने आयुर्वेदिक चिकित्सक से परामर्श करने की सलाह दी जाती है।

*तगर– यह जड़ी बूटी एक उत्कृष्ट डी-टॉक्सिफ़ायर और कायाकल्प करने वाली मानी जाती है। यह रक्त जोड़ों, ऊतकों, बृहदान्त्र औरनसों से विषाक्त पदार्थों को बाहर निकालने में मदद करता है।

अनिद्रा के लिए योग:

अनिद्रा और अन्य नींद की बीमारी से पीड़ित लोगों के लिए योग कई लाभ प्रदान करता है। नींद को प्रेरित करने के लिए नींद की गोलियांलेना एक आम बात है, इसका आपके मन और शरीर पर बहुत अधिक दुष्प्रभाव होता है। इसके अलावा, ये गोलियां केवल “लक्षणों” परकाम करती हैं और अंतर्निहित कारण को खत्म करने का प्रयास नहीं करती हैं।

दूसरी ओर, आयुर्वेद की तरह, योग का कोई साइड इफेक्ट नहीं है, लेकिन केवल सकारात्मक प्रभाव है। योग के माध्यम से अपनी जीवनशैली को पूरी तरह से बदलना और अनिद्रा के अंतर्निहित कारण को खत्म करना बहुत संभव है।
